Family reunion is one of the top priorities of Canadian Immigration. Parents and grandparents can be sponsored by a Canadian permanent resident or Canadian citizen if they meet the income requirements.
To be eligible as sponsor you must be:
- At least 18 years old
- A Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada
- If you’re a Canadian citizen living outside Canada, you must show that you plan to live in Canada when the persons you want to sponsor become permanent residents.
- You can’t sponsor someone if you’re a permanent resident living outside Canada.
- You’re able to prove that you’re not receiving social assistance for reasons other than a disability.
- You can provide for the basic needs of any persons you want to sponsor.
- you have enough money to support the people you want to sponsor
- to show that you have enough, you’ll have to provide your proof of income
- you may have a spouse or common-law partner co-sign to combine your incomes.
Process:
- Submit the interest to sponsor form, every year Government of Canada invite potential sponsors to submit the interest form.
- Later, Government of Canada selects random people to apply for sponsorship from the pool of people who have submitted the interest to sponsor form earlier.
- If you get the invitation letter to apply for sponsorship, you will have 60 days to submit the application package.
- You must submit the complete application before the given deadline on invitation letter.
